Winterlit, located Downtown Santa Monica and the Third Street Promenade will be glowing like never before, helping to make your season merry and bright with thousands of colorful, twinkling lights and a daily dancing neon light show synchronized to festive tunes and featuring falling snow.
Forecasters are reporting there will even be an appearance by the jolly one himself, Santa Claus, who will help light up Santa Monica’s Official Holiday Tree on the Promenade.
Local synagogues will celebrate the Festival of Lights every night of Hanukkah with gatherings at the Promenade Menorah.
Shop, dine and take a spin at the dazzling winter wonderland, Ice, everyone’s favorite outdoor ice-skating rink, presented by The Plaza at Santa Monica.
It’s a full slate of family-friendly holiday happenings in Downtown Santa Monica. Open to all.

Santa’s Captain’s Quarters
Your next stop on our holiday tour will have to be our Santa’s Captain’s Quarters, where St. Nick charts the course to the North Pole. Grab a photo with Santa* at the ship’s wheel, and decorate your own stocking* to take home.

Sports Deck

Gingerbread Village
Known for its Singing Baker and giant gingerbread replica of the Queen Mary, kids can stop here to decorate their own gingerbread houses*. From the Village, enter our 4-D Theater for a very special screening of The Polar Express, a festive delight for all of the senses.

The Ship’s Bow
The bow of our ship may just be the bow on top of a wonderful holiday experience. Marvel at our 80-foot animated lighted tree and witness our nightly countdown/celebration as we light her at dusk in a synchronized display of over 45,000 LED lights.
Promenade Deck
Wander the tree-lined Promenade Deck for access to our Queen Mary shops and restaurants. A holiday stroll around the Promenade Deck offers a great view of some of our light shows, a place to spot strolling entertainment, and offers sweet treats, pastries, and coffee in Midship Marketplace.
Canopy of Lights
This outdoor, Christmas-themed canopy connects the bow and stern areas of the ship, taking you to Gingerbread Village, the 4D Theater, and more. Your stroll will be illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights, creating photo opportunities galore.
Breakfast With Santa
Join Santa every Saturday morning in December leading up to Christmas (Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22) in one of our beautifully decorated salons for Breakfast with Santa. For just $19 for children age 4-11 and $39 for adults, enjoy a pajama party breakfast, holiday stories, and the chance to take pictures with Jolly Old Saint Nick.

Christmas Tree Lane:
An Epic Drive-Through Holiday Lights Experience
Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena (Santa Rosa Avenue, between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive) is the oldest large-scale Christmas lighting spectacle in the United States.
In 1885, real estate magnate John P. Woodbury of the Woodbury Family, the founders of Altadena – planted 134 deodar trees (Cedrus deodara) as a grand mile-long driveway entrance to the mansion he would build. Woodbury’s mansion was never built, but the trees thrived and the “driveway” became Santa Rosa Avenue.
In 1920, Altadena resident and department store owner Frederick C. Nash organized the first tree-lighting spectacle. In that first December when deodars were decorated with colorful lights with the goal of attracting shoppers to Nash’s store, one of the most celebrated Los Angeles-area traditions was born. The Lane is recognized as the oldest large-scale outdoor Christmas display in the world, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated as the California State Landmark No. 990.
Every Christmas season for more than 80 years, the majestic deodars on the “Mile of Christmas Trees” are strung with 10,000 lights.
Since 1956, the tradition has been kept alive by the Christmas Tree Lane Association (CTLA), a non-profit group of volunteers that has preserved the Lane without corporate sponsors or government funding, relying only on community support. CTLA members put up the lights between October and early December, then work on taking them down from February to April. In the spring and fall, volunteers rebuild the lines, replace faulty bulbs, and clear the brush growing under the deodars.
All this hard work culminates on the second Saturday in December, when the festive lighting ceremony brings out thousands of revelers from all around the area, as well as local choirs, marching bands, solo performers, and of course – Santa Claus!
