The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood

The inside scoop…

It’s the day every Harry Potter fan has been waiting for. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has officially opened to the public. Potterheads from all around the world have been planning their trips and counting down the days for this event to come. (2.5 years to be exact!) When the park opened their gates this morning, there were people waiting that had slept overnight outside the park, just to be some of the first to enter into the magical world.

The Red Carpet Grand Opening at Universal Studios was on Tuesday, where media and press were invited along with celebrities (including cast members from Harry Potter), members of the Chamber of Commerce, the Major, and many more. Cast members present included Tom Felton, Evanna Lynch, Warwick Davis, and James & Oliver Phelps. Some celebs that shared their excitement and love for Harry Potter and couldn’t wait to get into Hogwarts were Vanessa Hudgens, Billy Bob Thornton, Mario Lopez, Steven Spielberg, and Mindy Kaling. Of course, I’m sure there will be MANY more to come! The grand opening had an extravagant display of lights and fireworks that went along to the orchestrated music led by the world renowned composer himself, John Williams, and it was a magical sight to see.

Inside they discovered rides and attractions that made them feel like they were Harry Potter himself! Rides include the Harry Potter & the Forbidden Journey, which is a 3D ride through the classrooms and corridors of Hogwarts and above the castle, and The Flight of the Hippogriff, a family friendly outdoor roller coaster that spirals and dives around Pumpkin Patch and past Hagrid’s Hut. Attractions include a performance by the Frog choir led by Hogwart’s students and their croaking frogs, the Triwizard Spirit Ralley-a Hogwarts TriWizard tournament between the Beaxbaton and Durmstrang students.

While walking through the streets of Hogsmeade, you will be able to shop and dine with the local wizards. You can get some chocolate frogs at Honeydukes, clothing and movie replicas at Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods, novelty items, jokes, toys, & treats at Zonko’s Joke Shop, Wizard apparel at Gladrags Wizard Wear, send a letter and get stationary from the Owl Post, and my favorite of all the shops, Ollivanders, Makers of Fine Wands, where you can watch a wand pick its wizard, purchase your own wand or choose from a variety of film character replicas, wand sets, and more!

There’s no doubt that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is going to be talk of the town for quite some time, and it’s only going to get increasingly popular. I highly suggest you get your tickets NOW, and start planning your trip, because rumor has it, they’re already selling out for weeks to come. Tickets start at $90 and go up, depending on the dates and/or the type of tickets you want. If you’re looking for a great place to stay close by, The Dixie is located in the heart of Hollywood, just minutes from all the LA attractions, and a quick drive to Universal.
